Set up Consentl on your platform
Pick your platform and follow the guide. Each one shows how to install and connect Consentl, what to configure, how to check that it works and what the platform does not allow.
How the pieces fit together
- Dashboard
- At app.consentl.com. This is where you design the banner, choose your regions, review cookies and texts, and find your consent records and privacy requests.
- Site key
- A public ID that starts with sk_ and tells Consentl which site's settings to use. It is not a password.
- Loader
- One script, first in <head>. It applies the visitor's choice, holds back the tags that wait for consent and shows the banner when needed.
- Plugin or snippet
- The plugins add the loader for you and pass each choice to your platform's own consent settings. On any other site you paste the snippet yourself.
Before you start (all platforms except Shopify)
- Create a free account at app.consentl.com and add your site with every hostname it runs on (www and the bare domain count as one; add staging domains separately). Start free
- Copy the site key from the site's Setup page. It starts with sk_ and is public: it identifies your site, it is not a password.
- Plugins can fetch the key for you with their Connect button. Otherwise paste it, or add the loader script yourself.
- Shopify stores will use the Consentl app for Shopify instead, which needs no site key. It is coming soon. Shopify app (coming soon)
Shopify
Shopify
The Consentl app for Shopify is coming soon: a theme app embed with no code and no site key that passes each choice to Shopify's Customer Privacy API.
Platform plugins
WordPress
Install the Consentl plugin, click Connect, and the banner loads first in <head>. Works with the WP Consent API, page caches, WPML and Polylang, block and classic themes.
WooCommerce
WooCommerce shops use the Consentl WordPress plugin. It keeps WooCommerce order attribution off until the visitor allows marketing, and works with full-page caching.
Shopware 6
The Consentl plugin for Shopware 6.6 and 6.7 puts the banner first in <head>, replaces the Shopware cookie bar and keeps cookie groups in sync with each choice.
PrestaShop
The Consentl module for PrestaShop 8 and 9: the banner first in <head>, ready-made privacy pages, shortcodes and widgets, multistore and the official GDPR module.
Magento 2
The Consentl module for Magento and Adobe Commerce 2.4.6 to 2.4.8: the loader right after <meta charset>, a Cookie Restriction Mode bridge and CMS widgets. Luma and Hyvä.
Any website
Any website (snippet)
Add one script tag first in your site's <head>. The banner, texts, regions, Consent Mode and blocking rules are all configured in the Consentl dashboard.
Google Tag Manager
A Google Tag Manager template, imported by hand, that sets Consent Mode v2 defaults per region and, on Pro and higher, forwards each choice to your Google tags.
Website builders
Webflow
Add the Consentl loader to Webflow's site-wide Head code, forward the choice to Webflow Analyze, and learn what "not first in head" means on Webflow.
Wix
Add Consentl as Wix custom code, route tracking through Marketing Integrations, pass each choice to Wix's Consent Policy Manager and learn the limits on Wix.
Squarespace
Add Consentl with Squarespace code injection, move Google Analytics out of the built-in integration, turn off Squarespace's cookie banner and see what runs first.
BigCommerce
Install Consentl on BigCommerce with Script Manager or in the Stencil theme for strict prior blocking, keep checkout PCI-compliant, and use it on Catalyst storefronts.
Ghost
Add Consentl to a Ghost publication with code injection, or in the theme for a loader that is truly first in <head>, and see which Ghost features Consentl does not hold.
Framer
Add Consentl with Framer's "Start of <head> tag" custom code, which runs it before Framer's own scripts, and replace Framer's Cookie Banner component.
Frameworks
Next.js
Put Consentl first in <head> of the App Router root layout, load other tags through a small ConsentlScript component, or use the Pages Router _document.
Nuxt
Add the Consentl loader to Nuxt 3 and 4 with app.head and tagPriority 0, so it renders before every other script.
Astro
Add the Consentl loader to your Astro base layout with is:inline, so Astro does not bundle it into a deferred module. Works with view transitions (ClientRouter).
React, Vue, Angular (SPA)
Put the Consentl loader in index.html, not in a component, for single-page apps built with Vite, Create React App or the Angular CLI.
