Your answers stay in this page. To build the preview they are sent to Consentl's API (servers in Frankfurt, Germany), used for that request only and never stored or logged. Your IP address is used in memory to limit previews to 30 per 10 minutes. Nothing is saved in your browser: reloading the page clears the form.

Laws and regions it covers

  • European Union / EEA (GDPR)
  • United Kingdom (UK GDPR)
  • Switzerland (FADP)
  • United States (California CCPA/CPRA and other state laws)
  • Brazil (LGPD)
  • Canada (PIPEDA)
  • Quebec (Law 25)
  • Japan (APPI)
  • Australia (Privacy Act)

Choose every region where you have customers or visitors. The privacy and cookie policies then add the rights, legal bases, contacts and transfer rules each law asks for, for example:

  • GDPR legal bases (Art. 6) per purpose, the right to complain to a supervisory authority and, outside the EU, the EU representative (Art. 27).
  • US state privacy laws (California CCPA/CPRA and others): categories of personal information, “sale” and “sharing”, opt-out and Global Privacy Control.
  • Brazil's LGPD, Japan's APPI and Australia's Privacy Act: the rights each of them gives; for Canada (PIPEDA, Quebec Law 25) the person responsible for personal information.
  • Children: a statement that the service is not directed at children, or the parental-consent rules when it is.

How it works

  1. Choose documents

Pick the documents you need and the type of business: online store, SaaS, website or blog, mobile app or marketplace.

  2. Answer the questions

One step per topic, with explanations. In the dashboard, answers Consentl already knows are filled in: site name, web address, contact e-mail, regions, consent lifetime, the cookie list from your scans and your privacy request page.

  3. Check the preview and the warnings

A live preview shows the document while you answer. Warnings point out answers that need attention, such as a missing EU representative or a sale of personal data.

  4. Publish or download

Publish a hosted page with its own address, embed the document in your site with a snippet, or download it as HTML, Markdown or plain text. The banner's privacy and cookie links can point to the hosted pages.

  5. Keep it current

Every document records its template version. When a template changes, the dashboard tells you whether to review it. The cookie policy follows your current cookie list.

Why you should still have them reviewed

The documents are generated from templates and your answers. A template cannot know everything about your business, and laws and their interpretation change. Every generated document opens with a notice that it is based on a template and is not legal advice, and the generator recommends a review by a qualified lawyer before you rely on it.

The generator is a tool: it does not give legal advice or guarantee compliance, and you remain responsible for the documents you publish and for your site's compliance.

Questions and answers

Is the legal document generator free?

The preview on this page is free and needs no account. The complete documents are part of the Business and Enterprise plans ($19 and $39 per site per month), with a 14-day free trial once per account.

Is this legal advice?

No. The documents are generated from templates and your answers, and nobody checks the result for your business. Have them reviewed by a qualified lawyer before you rely on them, especially if you process sensitive data, serve children or sell personal data.

Which laws and regions are covered?

European Union / EEA (GDPR), United Kingdom (UK GDPR), Switzerland (FADP), United States (California CCPA/CPRA and other state laws), Brazil (LGPD), Canada (PIPEDA), Quebec (Law 25), Japan (APPI) and Australia (Privacy Act). Select every region where you have customers or visitors.

Which languages are the documents in?

You choose up to 5 languages: English, Română, Français, Deutsch, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Polski and Português are available now, and more EU languages are being added. Every document is generated in each language you choose, and the price does not depend on the number of languages. The answers you type are used as written in every language.

Do you store what I enter on this page?

No. The answers are sent to Consentl's API only to build the preview and are not stored or logged, and nothing is saved in your browser. They are also not carried over to the dashboard.

What happens when a template changes?

Each published document keeps the template version it was generated with. The dashboard shows when a newer template is available and whether the change is a substantive one you should review and publish again.

Does the cookie policy list my cookies?

In the dashboard, yes: the cookie policy includes the cookie list from your Consentl scans and manual entries, and the published page is brought up to date when that list changes. The preview on this page has no cookie list.

How do I put the documents on my site?

Link to the hosted page Consentl gives each published document, embed it with a snippet, or download it as HTML, Markdown or plain text and paste it into your site. The Consentl app for Shopify shows published documents as pages of your store.

What happens if I change to a lower plan?

Published documents stay online and can still be downloaded. Editing and regenerating them need Business or Enterprise again.
